The last full week of GOTV was INCREDIBLE! Phone calls galore, hundreds of packets knocked, and we couldn't be happier to hear from our union members that they have already voted or have a plan to vote on Election Day!

We kicked up our canvass launches across the state this week turning out a record number of union activists! We were joined by some very special guests including but not limited to: Senator Tim Kaine, Gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe, Attorney General Mark Herring, AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler, AFSCME's Elisa McBride, House of Delegates candidates from all across the state and so many more! They joined us across the state at our staging locations, encouraging union members to keep on keeping on and to get out the vote.

Again, our turnout this week was absolutely incredible! We are thankful for spirited fun and hard work of our canvass launch sponsors, in coordination with our Zone Leads, who made it all possible!

Labor 2021 - Week 7

This past week, we did what needed to be done all across the state. We phone banked and broke records during the week, and then on the weekend, with over 150 union members turning out on Saturday to knock doors, we kicked off our Get Out the Vote phase of the election. We loved having special guests Delegates Kathy Tran, Karrie Delaney, Marcus Simon, Caitlin Coakley, Betsy Carr, and Finale Norton, alongside National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) President Randy Erwin and National Vice President of the 14th District of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Ottis Johnson. They joined us across the state at our staging locations, encouraging union members to keep on keeping on and to get out the vote.

Again, our turnout this week was absolutely incredible! We are thankful for spirited fun and hard work of our canvass launch sponsor, in coordination with our Zone Leads, who made it all possible:

It is because of their adoption of this past Saturday's walk, that we had a great turnout, great food, and great fun!

Saturdays are our days, but you can canvass any day of the week! RSVP here for Saturday walks!

This past Thursday, we had a dozen volunteers make a little field trip. They headed over to Delegate Roslyn Tyler's district and beat the pavement with lots of door knocking for quite a bit of turf! This district is in dire need of a boost in the polls. and of course we were ready and fired up to turn out for Delegate Tyler as she has been there for labor and stood up for working Virginians and all union members her entire legislative career.

This past Saturday, we had the pleasure of having Attorney General Mark Herring, Delegate and Candidate for Lieutenant Governor Hala Ayala, Delegates Elizabeth Guzman, Supervisor Margaret Franklin representing candidate Michelle Maldonado, candidate Katie Sponsler, and Delegate Jay Jones all join us across the state at our staging locations to get our union members fired up and encouraged to the work!

Again, our turnout this week was phenomenal! We are thankful for spirited fun and hard work of our canvass launch sponsors, in coordination with our Zone Leads, who made it all possible:

Labor 2021 - Week 5

October 3 - October 9, 2021

We are officially 3 weeks out from the election! Yes. -- just 21 days away, and we will decide Virginia's fate - the fate of unions, and the fate of every working family across the Commonwealth!

This past week, we have broken records upon records in comparison to previous election cycles when it comes to turf covered by lit drops, door knocks, phone banks, post cards, and mail. Member to member contact is our game and labor votes is our name.

All week we were burning up the phone lines and beating the pavement bringing all the good election information to our union members' doors, and our work hasn't gone unnoticed as all across the state union-endorsed candidates are turning up and showing out at our Saturday canvass walks!

This Saturday, in Newport News we had Shelly Simonds, Mike Mullin, Mark Downey, and Marcia Price to mix & mingle and more importantly, to get us fired up! In Northern Virginia, Dan Helmer, Elizabeth Guzman and Vivian Watts fired up the crowd alongside IUAT International President Jimmie Williams. Meanwhile in Western, Sam Rasoul readied union activists for another shift!

Turnout this week topped the charts again, and so did the fun! It would not have happened if it weren't for our amazing canvass launch sponsors:

  • IUPAT

  • USW 1023

  • AFGE 1992

  • IBEW 80

It is because of their adoption of a Saturday walk, that we have a great turnout, great food, and great fun!

Labor 2021 - Week 4

September 26 - October 2, 2021

We're one week closer. Things are in full swing, and many of our members are early voting. This week's phone banks brought us lots of conversations with union members who had already voted or who were looking to make a plan to vote -- and boy, do we love to hear that! Thousands of calls made this week by dozens of union volunteers, and we are ecstatic to be getting voting information to our members just in time for them to cast their ballots this election cycle.

We have thousands of post cards hitting mailboxes across the state with reminders about our endorsed candidates in conjunction with the tens of thousands of pieces of union mail being sent by local unions across Virginia educating their members on what's at stake this election and urging them to make a plan and get out the vote to ensure that our unions are safe and thriving within the Commonwealth.

Saturday's canvass walk was one for the books! Union members were excited to see us safely dropping literature and having socially-distanced conversations with them at the door about the election. This Saturday's great turnout and fun couldn't have been done without our amazing canvass launch sponsors, and for that we are singing many thanks to:

  • NATCA who sponsored in NOVA

  • USW 1023 who sponsored in Roanoke

  • OPEIU 334 who sponsored in Richmond

With all of that being said, you can still imagine with 4 weeks left until the election, there's still so much to be done, and we need help! We need volunteers to phone bank, knock doors, and write post cards.

Help us recruit some more union members to help in the efforts of Labor 2021. Be sure to check out our calendar page to sign up for our virtual phone banks, canvass launches, and more held in your area throughout the week!

Labor 2021 - Week 3

September 19 - 25, 2021

This week, the entire state is feeling it -- it being the election season. Early voting started and people are heading out to the polls, and our union members are turning out in numbers for the labor program.

This week, well over 80 activists showed up and showed out to knock doors on Saturday, and that was just the icing on the cake to our weekly turnout for phone bank shifts and volunteers knocking during the week!

It can only be up from here!

If your local hasn't sent mail just yet, it's not too late. It is actually the perfect time to do it. Get yourself some flyers from the working family toolkit (not sure how? check out our video tutorial) and download one of our sample letters and get it out to your members. An educated member, is a voting member, and that's what we need this election to ensure that we are protecting our rights, that our voices are heard, and that we gain and maintain worker-friendly legislators.

We are down to 5 weeks before the election, and if you haven't seen polling, just know, things are close! The union voter turnout is going to make all the difference in this election. Working families have endured so much in the past 2 years during the COVID-19 pandemic, and together, we have to show up at the ballot box. November 2nd is coming, and we need all the help we can get.

Help us recruit some more union members to help in the efforts of Labor 2021. Be sure to check out our calendar page to sign up for our virtual phone banks, canvass launches, and more held in your area throughout the week!

Labor 2021 - Week 2

September 12 - 18, 2021

Labor 2021 has seriously been making huge steps for being so early in the program. This week's enthusiasm was demonstrated in our turnout numbers and contact rates. Even more activists joined us this week, and we continue breaking records when it comes to our voter contact.

Virtual phone banking during the week continued to bring in volunteers from all across the state who have never virtually phone banked before. They learned how easy it is, and more importantly, how fun and impactful it can be to contact other union members and their families. Also, our Saturday canvass launch made sure to cover more turf with even more fun as more union activists turned out to ensure that our fellow union members are heading to the polls well-informed.

This week early vote began here in Virginia on the 17th, and all across the state turnout was high! This is a wonderful start to making sure our rights are protected, but we have a long way to go until election day - Nov. 2nd. We have to keep on keeping on.

There are 6 weeks left of work to be done -- which means 6 weeks left to make sure our voices on the job, our rights as workers, and our livelihoods as the backbones of Virginia are heard, protected, and elevated. With that being said, we need you to help us recruit some more union members to help in the efforts of Labor 2021. Be sure to check out our calendar page to sign up for our virtual phone banks, canvass launches, and more held in your area throughout the week!

Labor 2021 - Week 1

September 6 - 11, 2021

What a first week ! Well...actually, we have been rolling in the Labor 2021 cycle for quite some time now with our wonderful release staff and weekday volunteers burning up the phone lines during weeknight virtual phone banking and writing postcards. However, this week, we kicked off our Saturday canvass with no contact lit drops to our fellow union members!

While still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and navigating our communication with the hundreds of thousands of union members around the Commonwealth, we have kept it innovative and safe while keeping it "easy," "fun," and "a good time." All across the state, union members have been talking to other union members to inform them about the importance of voting in this election, reminding them of voting changes, assisting in updating voter registrations, and giving all the important dates and details needed to cast a ballot this election.

Some great conversations and responses occurred all week through all the excitement of being able to come together (socially distanced, virtually, and safely). It's safe to say that union members are fired up and ready to get out and vote this election.

Help us recruit some more union members to help in the efforts of Labor 2021. Be sure to check out our calendar page to sign up for our virtual phonebanks, canvass launches, and more held in your area throughout the week!
